SLAS Graduate 2002 - Hayden Anderson

Hi Robbo.

1.Where are you now?
I am living in Sydney, NSW. I have been here for 5 years, moving after a short stint in Melbourne where I was playing AFL. I am still active within AFL circles, which was a passion of mine from a young age. I am a coach at the University of Technology AFL club under the tutelage of former Sydney Swans premiership AFL player Nic Fosdike.

2. What do you do?
I am a Marine Technician in the Royal Australian Navy. I have been in the RAN for 6.5 years. The job has taken me to some amazing places around the world, including the Middle East and to various corners of the Asian Pacific. I have been studying Project Management on the side and will be transitioning to an engineering consultancy firm in 2017.

3. What year did you graduate and what did you do after graduating at SLAS?

I graduated in 2002. I joined St Luke’s in 1997 as apart of the inaugural Grade 7 class. I took some time to find my feet after school; I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I worked in Hotels for a period whilst pursuing my AFL career. I studied education and sociology at CQU and UQ for a short period and also had the chance to complete my first teaching practical back at St Luke’s. I eventually decided that teaching wasn’t for me and moved to Melbourne where I was playing AFL semi-professionally whilst working in Hotels. In 2010 I decided to join the Defence Force which was a dream of mine from a young age.

4. What is a favourite memory or memories from your time at SLAS.?

There a various memories I have from my time at St Luke’s. Being apart of the initial SLATE touch academy was my first initiation into becoming more serious about sport in general, there was a real strong camaraderie amongst everyone within the group. I was one of the youngest members in the senior touch team and can still remember being the “grommet” on the first trip to the National Carnival. The team was stacked with superstars from the touch football and rugby league background; it was a really great experience for me and helped me mature as a young man.

Other memories would be science classes with Mr Johnston, he made the classes so fun and really engaged with me – I wasn’t the most academic student but “Mr J” always managed to keep me connected.

My time at St Luke’s was one of the best experiences in my young life, the school was so full of inspiring and influential people who really helped shaped the man I am today.

SLAS Graduate 2005 - Michael Sinclair.

Hi Mr Robinson.

I am currently living by the beach in Bargara with my beautiful wife, Holly. We simply love it here in this lazy little town. This year (2016) I am working as a supply teacher; sometimes at St Luke's Anglican School and serve as a Youth Leader at my church.

After graduation, I deferred university to travel Europe and save (spend every cent of my) money. I was working at an Italian Restaurant while studying which allowed me to continue travelling abroad throughout the Uni breaks. In my final year, I began working as a youth worker for a fostering organisation. I completed my teaching degree in 2011 and was offered a position as a Case Worker and later, Case Manager, where I managed a program for children transitioning from Foster Care.

In 2014, in pursuit of a career in Education, I applied successfully for a position as a teacher aide at St Luke's and was offered a term as PE teacher in the Primary. This was followed by a 12 month contract as Youth Minister in 2015. It was a fantastic opportunity and experience.

My favourite memories from school: Getting on the tennis court or touch footy with Mr Robinson, and getting up to mischief in design technology.
